Nakesia Thomas plans to draw on her own experiences and education from GNTC to help others overcome life’s challenges and achieve their full potential. Thomas, a Rome resident, will graduate with her associate degree in Social Work Assistant and cross the stage at GNTC’s Fall Commencement Ceremony on Thursday, Dec. 4, at the Dalton Convention Center. Her home campus is the Floyd County Campus in Rome.

Approximately 300 students from Georgia Northwestern Technical College’s (GNTC) nine-county service area will exit the Dalton Convention Center on Thursday, Dec. 4, armed with the education and technical training needed to kick-start their careers.

Fourteen students graduated on Wednesday, Nov. 19, from Georgia Northwestern Technical College’s (GNTC) Electrical Lineworker program during a ceremony at GNTC’s Polk County Campus in Rockmart.

GNTC student Ashley Weaver believes her prospects add up to a bright future as she pursues an associate degree in Accounting. Weaver received her High School Equivalency (HSE) through GNTC’s Adult Education program in spring 2024, completing classes at GNTC’s Whitfield Murray Campus (WMC) in Dalton. She expects to graduate with her Accounting degree in spring 2026.

Two GNTC students have received the fall 2025 Rome Home Builders Association (RHBA) Scholarship.

GNTC is providing advanced training to regional utility contractors as part of a new program to help them meet registered apprenticeship requirements.

Jayden Allen has been chosen to represent GNTC at the Dinah Culbreath Wayne EAGLE (Exceptional Adult Georgian in Literacy Education) Leadership Institute state competition March 9-11, 2026, at the Crowne Plaza Atlanta Perimeter at Ravinia.

Georgia Trend magazine has selected Dr. Heidi Popham, president of Georgia Northwestern Technical College (GNTC), as one of the magazine’s most influential leaders. This year marks the fourth that Dr. Popham has been profiled in the “annual publication that spotlights the most powerful leaders across major industries and organizations” who impact Georgia, according to Georgia Trend.

About three dozen students and alumni attended GNTC’s recent 2025 Aviation Career Day. GNTC will host a Free Application Month throughout November to help those who are seeking to enroll in the spring semester. Through Nov. 30, GNTC will waive the $25 application fee for all incoming students.
