Twenty-eight students earned their High School Equivalency (HSE) through GNTC's Accelerated Academy on Tuesday, Oct. 27. The graduation ceremony was held in the Conference Center on GNTC’s Gordon County Campus in Calhoun. The free Accelerated Academy classes, held Oct. 15-17, provided meals and snacks, HSE instruction, practice tests and testing.

GNTC will host a Free Application Month throughout November to help those who are seeking to enroll in the spring 2027 semester. Through Nov. 30, GNTC will waive the $25 application fee for all incoming students. Applicants should enter the code NOVFREE27 (all capital letters) to waive the fee.

Kathleen Pichardo, of Dalton, has been chosen to represent GNTC at the Dinah Culbreath Wayne EAGLE (Exceptional Adult Georgian in Literacy Education) Leadership Institute state competition March 8-10, 2027, at the Crowne Plaza Atlanta Perimeter at Ravinia.

Twenty-one GNTC students recently earned 32 Cisco certifications. Dr. Dwight Watt, instructor of Computer Information Systems Technology at GNTC, said he administered 32 certification tests for Cisco Certified Support Technician to GNTC students, and all of the students passed all of their exams. CCST certifications may be earned in Cybersecurity, Information Technology (IT) Support and Networking.

Rabbit Valley Farmers Market has awarded scholarships to two GNTC students for the fall 2026 semester. The Rabbit Valley Farmers Market Culinary Scholarship assists Culinary Arts students with equipment costs incurred at the beginning of the program and may also be used for tuition, fees or other educational expenses. The Rabbit Valley Farmers Market Horticulture Scholarship was established to provide financial support to Horticulture students planning a career related to environmental issues, farming, floral design, gardening, horticulture or landscape design.

E.K. West, Financial Aid specialist at GNTC, has been recognized for her outstanding commitment, innovation and impact in supporting Student Success. West recently received the TCSG Student Impact Award, which is awarded to one exceptional Student Affairs or Student Services staff member at each TCSG institution.

A GNTC graduate credits the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) program with empowering her to succeed. Shannon Taylor was a low-income single parent seeking resources to assist her with covering the costs of an education when she entered GNTC in 2023. She earned certificates in Domestic and Family Violence Specialist and Addiction Specialist in 2024 before graduating with her associate degree in Social Work in 2025.

Grace Beam, director of Online Learning and Development at GNTC, will speak at two national conferences this fall, focusing on how colleges are responding to artificial intelligence (AI) in the classroom.

Business leaders, educators, economic development professionals and workforce experts from across Northwest Georgia will gather Oct. 29 for the second annual Northwest Georgia Workforce Summit. Presented by Dalton State College and GNTC, this year’s summit will be held at GNTC’s Gordon County Campus and will bring together leaders from education, industry and government to explore strategies for ensuring Northwest Georgia remains competitive in a rapidly changing economy.

GNTC has announced the fall 2026 recipients of the Roper Corporation Scholarship are Michael Doane and Andres “Chuey” Hernandez. Doane lives in Chickamauga and is a student in the Supply Chain Management and Logistics program at GNTC’s Catoosa County Campus. Hernandez resides in Summerville and studies Automation Technology at the Catoosa County Campus.

Four Georgia Northwestern Technical College (GNTC) students have received The Governor Nathan Deal Technical Education Scholarship in recognition of their academic achievement in an industrial or industrial-related program. The scholarship honors former Gov. Nathan Deal for his dedication to technical education in Georgia.
