Nursing (ASN)
GNTC Nursing and Health Technology programs combine classroom instruction, laboratory practice, and clinical experience to provide graduates with the knowledge and skills required for success in various healthcare fields.
The associate degree nursing program at Georgia Northwestern Technical College prepares the learner to apply the knowledge, skills, and attitudes required of a self-directed, critically thinking, beginning nurse generalist. The 65-hour occupational curriculum is designed to be completed in four consecutive semesters through combined classroom, laboratory, and on-site clinical experience. The nurse is viewed as a caring, holistic healthcare provider possessing critical thinking and clinical judgment skills, accountability, and integrity that makes nursing the most trusted profession in the United States.
Program graduates receive an Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) degree. Graduates are then eligible to apply to take the National Council Licensure Exam for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN). Upon successful completion of the NCLEX-RN and receipt of an RN license by the Georgia Board of Nursing (GBON), graduates may obtain employment in a variety of settings across multiple states.
GNTC’s Program Pathways can be used as advising guides or maps to help determine which courses they need to take and when to take them. By following the course of study outlined in the specific degree, diploma or certificate pathway, GNTC students will know the necessary prerequisite courses they need to continue in the chosen program of study.
What career options will I have?
Hospitals, Acute and Long-Term Healthcare Facilities, Home Healthcare, Health Clinics, Surgical Centers, Physician Offices, Government or Private Industry, and Public Health Agencies. Due to the Nurse Licensure Compact, GNTC graduates can seamlessly practice in 42 U.S. jurisdictions, including Guam and the Virgin Islands.
