How Far would GNTC President Dr. Heidi Popham travel to show her support for the I Am GNTC Annual and Year-End Giving Campaign . . .

Eight immediate and extended members of a northwest Georgia family are GNTC students; a ninth expects to begin classes in 2027. Ashley Weaver began her journey with GNTC as a student in Adult Education, continued on to earn her associate degree in Accounting at GNTC in May 2026 and expects to complete her degree in Marketing as early as spring 2027. Her husband, Jared Weaver, expects to earn his degree in Architectural and Engineering Drawing Technology in fall 2027. The couple lives in Chatsworth, and their four daughters are also GNTC students. She encouraged them and three additional family members to attend GNTC.

Georgia Trend magazine has selected Dr. Heidi Popham, president of GNTC, as one of the magazine’s most influential leaders for 2026. This year marks the fifth that Dr. Popham has been profiled in the GEORGIA 500.

Georgia Northwestern Technical College is hosting Open Houses at all six campuses in November to provide an opportunity to learn more about the programs offered at GNTC, tour the facilities and meet faculty and staff. Attendees will receive special giveaways and a code to waive the $25 application fee.

Twenty-eight students earned their High School Equivalency (HSE) through GNTC's Accelerated Academy on Tuesday, Oct. 27. The graduation ceremony was held in the Conference Center on GNTC’s Gordon County Campus in Calhoun. The free Accelerated Academy classes, held Oct. 15-17, provided meals and snacks, HSE instruction, practice tests and testing.

GNTC will host a Free Application Month throughout November to help those who are seeking to enroll in the spring 2027 semester. Through Nov. 30, GNTC will waive the $25 application fee for all incoming students. Applicants should enter the code NOVFREE27 (all capital letters) to waive the fee.

Kathleen Pichardo, of Dalton, has been chosen to represent GNTC at the Dinah Culbreath Wayne EAGLE (Exceptional Adult Georgian in Literacy Education) Leadership Institute state competition March 8-10, 2027, at the Crowne Plaza Atlanta Perimeter at Ravinia.

Twenty-one GNTC students recently earned 32 Cisco certifications. Dr. Dwight Watt, instructor of Computer Information Systems Technology at GNTC, said he administered 32 certification tests for Cisco Certified Support Technician to GNTC students, and all of the students passed all of their exams. CCST certifications may be earned in Cybersecurity, Information Technology (IT) Support and Networking.

Rabbit Valley Farmers Market has awarded scholarships to two GNTC students for the fall 2026 semester. The Rabbit Valley Farmers Market Culinary Scholarship assists Culinary Arts students with equipment costs incurred at the beginning of the program and may also be used for tuition, fees or other educational expenses. The Rabbit Valley Farmers Market Horticulture Scholarship was established to provide financial support to Horticulture students planning a career related to environmental issues, farming, floral design, gardening, horticulture or landscape design.

E.K. West, Financial Aid specialist at GNTC, has been recognized for her outstanding commitment, innovation and impact in supporting Student Success. West recently received the TCSG Student Impact Award, which is awarded to one exceptional Student Affairs or Student Services staff member at each TCSG institution.
