E.K. West, Financial Aid specialist at Georgia Northwestern Technical College (GNTC), has been recognized for her outstanding commitment, innovation and impact in supporting Student Success.
West recently received the Technical College System of Georgia’s (TCSG) Student Impact Award, which is awarded to one exceptional Student Affairs or Student Services staff member at each TCSG institution. The award criteria include student-centered service, innovation and initiative, collaboration and leadership, and measurable impact by the nominee.
“Receiving this award is an honor,” West said. “I already feel fortunate to be part of GNTC, so being recognized for supporting our students is especially meaningful to me.”

West joined GNTC as a tutor at the Whitfield Murray Campus in Dalton in 2018 and transitioned to her current role in 2023. She said her connection to GNTC began in 2006 when she was an education reporter for a local newspaper.
Ana King, director of Financial Aid at GNTC, said she nominated West for the recognition primarily because of her student-centered service, noting the genuine care and concern West shows to students.
“E.K. answers calls and emails thoroughly, ensures students get answers to their questions and is great to work with,” King said. “I rely on E.K. to point out when changes in Financial Aid processing might make things more difficult for students and to provide me with feedback from someone who truly cares.”
“E.K. never loses sight of the students’ success as her primary focus,” King said. She receives emails complimenting West, and West receives thank you notes.
West seeks out opportunities to learn, not only for self-improvement but also to be a better advocate for GNTC students, King said.
“I find great joy in helping students understand their financial aid eligibility, awards, deadlines and responsibilities,” West said. “Every conversation—whether it involves a question, concern or challenge—is an opportunity to help students feel supported, valued and more confident in advocating for themselves.”
West said she hopes to reduce some of the stress related to college expenses. Feeling informed and supported empowers students to focus more fully on their education and goals.
“Regardless of my role at GNTC, supporting our students has always been—and will always be—at the heart of what I do,” West said. “Being surrounded by GNTC staff who care so deeply about student success is truly meaningful, and I am grateful to be part of this college community.”
