Transient Students

Transient students are students who pursue a course outside of their home college at another college due to a schedule conflict or the desired course not being offered at his/her home college. To attend a college as a transient student, you must receive permission from your home college. To determine your tailored transient plan, review the information below and view the Academic Plan for Transient Students.

Host Transients

If you are a student from another college looking to just “visit” our institution to take a class(es), while you maintain enrollment at your home college, you will be considered a “Host Transient.” You must receive permission from your home college to take classes with GNTC. You will need to complete the GNTC Admissions Application, indicate on it that you are applying as a Transient Student, complete the admissions process, and pay the $25 admissions fee.

A Few Important Notes

  • As a host (visiting) transient student, you should be aware that the only aid that could possibly be applied to your account here at GNTC would be any state aid (such as HOPE) that you may qualify for--provided your home college’s Financial Aid Office submits your eligibility to us reflecting that you qualify.
  • Even if you do qualify for HOPE, you should be aware that you will still have a balance due to be paid by our tuition & fee deadline, since HOPE covers only a portion (90%) of the tuition rate.
  • If you qualify for federal aid (such as Pell or loans) at your home college, it will not be able to apply to your account here at GNTC. Federal regulations only allow federal funds to be administered by your home college. If you qualify for federal aid and your home college notifies us, then we will send a Title IV  Enrollment Verification (TEV) to your college after the term has started and the drop/add period for the term has passed. Your home college will then make any applicable adjustments to your aid at their institution accordingly.
  • At the end of your term with GNTC, you will need to have your transcripts sent from our college to your home college. View our Transcript Request for more information on requesting transcripts from GNTC.

Home Transients

If you are a GNTC student wishing to take transient coursework at another college, you will be considered a “home transient” and will need to follow the instructions detailed in the GNTC Transient Student Approval.

A Few Important Notes

  • As a home transient student who is a Georgia resident, you should be aware that the only aid that could possibly be applied to your account at your hosting college (the college you are just “visiting”) would be any state aid (such as HOPE) that you may qualify for. If you have followed the proper steps for becoming a home transient and are approved to take coursework at another Georgia college, notification of your eligibility for any state aid will be sent to your hosting college.
  • Even if you do qualify for HOPE, you should be aware that you will still have a balance due to be paid by your hosting college’s tuition & fee deadline (providing the hosting college is a Georgia college), since the HOPE covers only a portion of the tuition rate.
  • If you qualify for federal aid (such as Pell or loans), it will not be able to apply to your account at the hosting college. Federal regulations only allow federal funds to be administered by your home college. If you qualify for federal aid, then we will be sent a Title IV Enrollment Verification (TEV) to your hosting college after the term has started and the drop/add period for the term has passed. If there are necessary adjustments needed, then your federal aid will be adjusted accordingly after the TEV is received.
  • At the end of your term with the hosting college, you will need to have your transcripts from that college sent to GNTC.
