All awards are made electronically and may be viewed through the student’s MyGNTC account (Please see Utilizing MyGNTC for instructions on viewing your account).
A student does not incur a charge to their account until he/she has registered for classes. Therefore, awards are not made to the account until all steps necessary for completing the student's financial aid file have been satisfied. Please review our How to Apply page to see what steps must be completed before aid can be awarded.
Generally, the system will deduct charges from whichever funds disburse and load in first from the state/federal governments respectively. Usually this results in any state HOPE Grant/Scholarship funds applying toward tuition first followed by federal Pell then any other secondary state or federal funds. The following is a general depiction of the order in which charges may be deducted from a student’s financial aid. Variations will occur depending on the student’s eligibility.
State funds include awards such as HOPE Grant, HOPE Scholarship, Zell Miller Grant, Zell Miller Scholarship, and HOPE Career Grant (view our Types of Aid section for details regarding eligibility). When awards are made to a student’s account, generally state funds take priority. This means that students who receive state funds will have their tuition charges deducted from (paid by) their state aid awards first.

Students receiving HOPE Career Grant funds will have their tuition costs deducted from HOPE funds then HOPE Career Grant funds will be applied to the remaining costs. After funds from Priority Group 1 cover the number of tuition costs they are designated to cover, the remaining tuition and fee charges can be deducted from any additional aid awarded to the student’s account. If a student does not receive state funds but receives other forms of financial aid, then tuition and fee charges will be deducted straight from funds within the next priority group.
The Federal Pell Grant is the next priority group from which tuition and fee charges are deducted. Award amounts are determined by the student’s Student Aid Index (SAI—a number to indicate federal aid eligibility), cost of attendance, and the number of credit hours for which a student is enrolled in classes. *Award amounts will vary depending on the individual's eligibility results. Also, summer term amounts may vary depending on enrollment hours during the fall and spring terms. * Students receiving both state funds (HOPE, Zell Miller, HOPE Career Grant) and Pell funds will have any remaining tuition and fees not covered by state funds come out of his/her Pell award.

Students who have Pell funds left over after their tuition and fees are paid are normally able to utilize up to 50% (but no more than $800.00) of the remaining funds in the GNTC Bookstore for books and supplies. Usually, that begins just before the Tuition & Fee Deadline for the respective term and extends into the first two weeks of classes. Be sure to view our Priority Dates page to keep track of those dates. Any applied aid left over after all tuition and fee charges are deducted (including any funds used in the bookstore) will be processed in the form of a refund later in the term. Not every student receives both state funds (HOPE, Zell Miller, HOPE Career Grant) and Pell funds. Also, some students may not qualify for enough Pell to cover all of their tuition and fees. In such cases, they must pay the remaining amount out-of-pocket. Students may also cover their costs through the Payment Plan or student loans. However, they would have to be fully set up and processed before the tuition & fee deadline.

All tuition and fees must be paid by the Tuition and Fees Deadline. See our Priority Dates for more details on when tuition and fees are due.
The last financial aid priority group from which tuition and fees are deducted is Federal Direct Loans (see our Federal Loans section for more information regarding loans). Students who do not have all of their tuition and fee charges covered through state funds or Pell, but who receive Federal Direct Loans will have any remaining charges deducted from their loan award. Loan funds are disbursed (or released) from the federal government and sent to the school in three separate disbursements spread throughout the term (for Summer it is two disbursements). Any awarded loan funds left over after deducting tuition and fee charges will be processed as a refund. Please see our Refunds section for more information.
Loan funds are available for use in the GNTC Bookstore beginning with an initial cap of $200. If you qualify for more than $200 in loan funds that are left over after tuition & fee charges, then having amounts beyond $200 made available for use as a book credit will have to be requested through the business office.

It is possible for a student to not receive any financial aid other than Federal Direct Loans. In such instances, if the student qualifies for and receives student loans, then all of the tuition and fees will be deducted from the award amount. It is also possible for a student to not qualify for enough funds to cover all of his/her tuition and fee costs. In such cases, the student will be required to pay funds out-of-pocket.
