GNTC’s Horticulture Program to hold 2018 Fall Mum Sale

September 14, 2018

The Horticulture program at Georgia Northwestern Technical College (GNTC) will hold a Fall Mum Sale outside of Building L located across from GNTC’s Floyd County Campus in Rome beginning Monday, Sept. 17.

The sale will be held from 8 a.m. to noon on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. On Wednesdays the sale will take place all day from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The mums will cost $5 each and the sale will continue until Sept. 28 or until the mums are sold out.

The plants are located in a fenced area outside of Building L and buyers should stop by Building L if no one is outside with the mums, said David Warren, director of GNTC’s Horticulture program.

“The flowering buds are just starting to show on the mums and should be in full bloom in a week or two,” said Warren.

According to Horticulture student Terra Black-Coontz, the various plant sales that GNTC has throughout the year provide students with a full learning experience.

“We plant the mums from plugs, propagate them, raise them to maturity, and then we sell them.” said Coontz, a resident of Calhoun. “It’s a very hands-on based process.”

All proceeds from the plant sale will benefit the Horticulture program at GNTC. Purchases may be made with cash or check and credit cards are not accepted.

Warren says that before this year is over the Horticulture program plans to have a fall pansy sale and also will have a poinsettia sale around Christmas.

“The pansies will be ready in three or four weeks,” said Warren.
