Georgia Northwestern Technical College (GNTC) has received a donation of personal hygiene items from On My Mother’s Shoulders.
On My Mother’s Shoulders Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit whose goal is to supply basic necessities to college students who are experiencing housing insecurity and financial hardship. The nonprofit said to date it has partnered with more than 39 colleges to create community closets and has donated about 136,000 products to keep students in need more focused on their academics, not obstacles.
“Over the past several months, Special Populations has seen a significant increase in requests for hygiene products, making this contribution especially timely and impactful,” said Shawn Peeks, Special Populations coordinator at GNTC. “Donations like this help us continue to meet the needs of our students and remove barriers that may hinder their success. We are truly grateful for this generous donation.”
On July 21, On My Mother’s Shoulders donated body wash, dental flossers, deodorant, intimate care products, laundry detergent, lotion, razors, soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes and washcloths, which will be distributed to the pantries at each of GNTC’s six campuses, as well as the Aviation Training Center, Peeks said.
When Peeks contacted On My Mother’s Shoulders to request a donation to GNTC, she learned that Claudia Phillips, founder and chief executive officer of On My Mother’s Shoulders, had already reached out to the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) about working with technical colleges. She quickly connected with Phillips.
“GNTC’s goal is to support students in becoming the very best version of themselves, and we are committed to helping them along the way,” Peeks said. “Community partners such as On My Mother’s Shoulders are invaluable to our mission, and we deeply appreciate their dedication to supporting our students and strengthening our community.”
Georgia Northwestern Technical College delivers high-quality workforce education to the citizens of northwest Georgia. Students can pursue associate degrees, diplomas and certificates in a wide range of career pathways, including aviation, business, health, industrial and public service. Over the past year, 14,082 people benefited from GNTC’s credit and noncredit programs. The college has an annual credit enrollment of 9,342 students and achieved a 100 percent placement rate. An additional 4,740 individuals are served through adult education, continuing education, business and industry training and Georgia Quick Start® programs.
