You know those questions you have about paying for college? We have the answers! We’re just a visit, phone call, or e-mail away from you reaching your dreams!
Georgia Northwestern Technical College realizes that some students need financial assistance in order to attend school. Students at Georgia Northwestern Technical College can look to several areas for financial aid: Federal Pell Grants, Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG), Federal Work Study, Federal Direct Student Loans, HOPE Scholarship Program (for Georgia residents only), HOPE Grant Program (for Georgia residents only), Veterans Benefits, and Workforce Investment Act (WIA).
To be eligible for financial aid, a student must have a high school diploma or GED. A student who does not have a high school diploma or GED may demonstrate eligibility for entry into those programs not requiring a diploma/GED if the student achieves acceptable scores on the Ability To Benefit (ATB) Examination as well as acceptable program entry scores. Passing the ATB exam does not take the place of having a high school diploma or GED for those programs that require a diploma or GED for admission purposes. If the student does not pass the ATB exam, the student can later become eligible after successfully completing six (6) credit hours (does not include Learning Support Classes). To receive federal funds and HOPE funds, students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid at www.FAFSA.gov; or to apply for HOPE funds only a student must complete the GSFAPP at www.gacollege411.org.
If eligible, the HOPE Grant will for 81% of the tuition costs for students seeking a diploma or certificate programs. If eligible, the HOPE Scholarship will pay 81% of the tuition costs for students seeking a degree programs. Effective summer quarter 2004, a HOPE cap hour limit became effective. Students can receive the HOPE grant for certificate and diploma programs up to a total of 95/63 quarter/semester hours. A student can receive HOPE Scholarship funds up to 190/130 quarter/semester hours of course work. All degree seeking students should check with the Financial Aid Office to see if they qualify for HOPE Scholarship funds.
The financial aid academic year begins July 1st. Students will be emailed an award letter after they have registered for classes. The award letter will list the amounts of financial aid and the different types of financial aid that the student may be eligible to receive. However, financial aid funds will only be disbursed (paid) for hours taken in the student’s program of study. Again, the award letter may show the total amount a student may be eligible to receive; however the Financial Aid Office will only pay (disburse) for hours taken in the student’s major. All classes taken that are not a part of the student’s major will be the responsibility of the student. Therefore, students should always check the Georgia Northwestern Technical College Catalog that was in effect when he or she first entered the program to make sure their classes will be paid for. When in doubt, contact your Financial aid Advisor at any GNTC campus.
Note: ALL STUDENTS must reapply for financial aid each academic year. Please remember that this eligibility process takes about five to six weeks. Please visit all of the Financial Aid pages on this website for complete details on financial aid:
