Drivers Education

Learning to drive is a major milestone in a teenagers life. It's important for young, inexperienced drivers to learn safe driving techniques. The mission of Georgia Northwestern Technical Colleges drivers education program is to provide students with the skills, knowledge, and thought processes necessary to become a safe driver. This course meets the requirements for Joshua’s Law which requires 30 hours of classroom instruction and 6 hours of behind-the-wheel (BTW) drive time with an instructor to receive a Class D license at age 16. It also qualifies for the Teen Drivers Education insurance discount (Georgia Code O.C.G.A. 33-9-42) offered by many insurance companies upon successful completion of the course.

  • 30 hour class and 6-hour Behind the Wheel Instruction (30/6) - $350
  • 6-hour Behind-the-Wheel Only - $250

Drivers Education Grant

Georgia Northwestern Technical College is an Authorized Provider in the Georgia Drivers Education Grant Scholarship Program administered through Georgia Drivers Education Commission. On January 1, 2017 the Georgia Drivers Education Commission began a new scholarship program in which students may apply for a drivers education grant scholarship. Apply for the scholarship online. Create an account, using 'student' as the username and 'student' as the password.

Students may redeem the grant scholarship voucher with Georgia Northwestern Technical College by forwarding their award email to DriversEd at GNTC. Upon receiving the award email, you will be sent registration and class schedule information. Awarded grant scholarships are for the standard 30/6 Driver’s Ed Class. Grant Scholarships are valued at $350.

You will be contacted in the order that your phone request is received and scheduled for classes. Please do not leave multiple messages. You will receive an email with class information and a parent orientation will be held prior to the start of classes. Classes are filled and registration conducted on a first-come, first-serve basis. Class dates may be changed or cancelled as necessary without notice to accommodate students, school systems, and instructor’s schedules. A Mandatory Parent Orientation is held on the first day of class of each session.
