Course Description

The American Heart Association’s (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) Course provides the foundation for saving lives after cardiac arrest. Updated to reflect new 2015 guidelines, this course teaches students the skills of CPR for victims of all ages, including ventilation with a barrier device, a bag-valve-mask device, and oxygen. Training instruction will also include the use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED), and relief of a Foreign Body Airway Obstruction. This course is designed for individuals who care for patients in a wide variety of settings, such as professional healthcare providers, day-care workers, lifeguards, or any other individuals whose job responsibilities require them to respond in an emergency.

Students will participate in simulated clinical scenarios with hands-on learning that reinforces skills proficiency, and work with an AHA BLS Instructor to complete BLS skills practices and skills testing. Students will complete a written exam, and books will be available for optional purchase at $20. Participants will receive an AHA BLS Course Completion Card, which will be valid for two years.

The American Heart Association strongly promotes knowledge and proficiency in all AHA Courses and has developed instructional materials for this purpose. Use of these materials in an educational course does not represent course sponsorship by the AHA. Any fees charged for such a course, except for a portion of fees needed for AHA course materials, do not represent income to the AHA.
