Adult Education
The Adult Education Program at Georgia Northwestern Technical College offers classes and instruction in Adult Learning Centers in Cedartown, Rome, Rockmart, Calhoun, Summerville, Rock Spring, Lafayette, Ringgold, and Trenton. Adults of all ages can enroll for free classes. The centers have modern computer labs, study materials and resources, and professional adult education staff for both daytime and evening programs. There is group-based and/or individualized instruction based on the individual learning needs and goals of students. When you enroll, an academic assessment will identify the starting place for your studies to move you ahead with educational skills where you left off when you left school.
The environment is designed to give special attention to adults returning to school to resume educational programs which were interrupted in earlier years. Adult learners can be found here refreshing reading, writing, and math skills to re-enter the job market after a layoff; preparing for the GED ® Tests to qualify for a job or educational program that requires a high school diploma for entry; learning English as their second language; or just working toward a personal educational goal. "I just always wanted to finish high school, but never had the chance." All instructional materials are available for student use at no cost. For those who wish to purchase materials for home use, the GNTC bookstores have the same materials available. Classes operate year round on the Georgia Northwestern Technical College calendar—Spring, Summer, and Fall Semesters.
Instructional Areas include:
- Adult Beginning Reading
- Adult Basic Education—reading, writing skills, mathematics
- Preparation for the GED® Test
- English as a Second Language
